Another double duty day

 Today we returned to another church in the Kabitini area of Nakuru at the A.I.C. Church. The crowd when we arrived was overwhelming. The church sits on a small parcel of land with limited facilities, so a tent had been erected to allow the water filter distribution to happen outside while the vision clinic happened inside the church. There were probably about 400 people there when we arrived. Things went amazingly smoothly, and the Kenyan people are always so gracious and willing to wait patiently until it is their turn. In total over 250 water filters were distributed and we saw somewhere north of 150 patients in the vision clinic. We made somewhere between 70 and 80 pairs of prescription glasses and dispensed nearly 100 pairs of reading glasses and all of our remaining sunglasses. We have another vision clinic to conduct on Wednesday, and we are rapidly running out of supplies of reading glasses. We are also starting to run low on some prescriptions to allow us to make glasses. The response and need has been much greater than anticipated. We will need to bring a far greater number of supplies next year. It’s been a long day and we did not return to our base until well after dark. This will be a short post for tonight because we are ready to turn in to get our batteries recharged so that we can work another day tomorrow. We are returning tomorrow to the school at Gituamba, where we will continue working on construction projects. This time, however, the school will be in session, so we will also be dealing with hundreds of kids on the premises at the same time we are working. It’s always a challenge, but it’s always fun!
