Final water filter and vision clinics

We went back to the A.I.C. Church in the Kabatini area for our second time this week to do a double duty day of filters and glasses. The crowds were almost as large as they were on Monday. Word spreads when you’re doing things that minister to the people. Water filter training was again done under a big tent and we set up inside the church again to do the vision clinic. The sanctuary was full of people when we got there. In total, 132 water filter kits were distributed after the training, and we saw nearly 180 patients in the vision clinic. It was evident to us that we were rapidly running out of supplies for vision, patients, since we had had such large attendance at our three previous clinics. We ended up running out of nearly every power of reading glasses, and our prescription lens kits ran out of stock for various prescriptions. We have some serious restocking that needs to be done before we come back next year. In total, we dispensed well over 400 pairs of readers and 500 pairs of sunglasses. In addition, we distribute eye drops to people during the clinic, since dry eyes from the dusty environment are really prevalent. By the time we shut down the clinic around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, there were still nearly as many people still sitting in the sanctuary, hoping for vision care. We promised them that SWOK will be back and continue to meet their vision care needs. 

In total this trip, the water filter team taught the people and distributed over 996 kits! That means nearly 4000 Kenyan family members now have access to clean water. We have been blessed to serve these very gracious and appreciative and patient people.
