Our final workday

Today was probably the most challenging day of our ten days on the ground in Kenya. There are a whole lot of emotions going on for everyone on our team as well as among our Kenyan friends, new and old. There are lots of sweet goodbyes and final opportunities to work side by side for this year. For many of us, it’s not goodbye but auf wiedersehen, “until we meet again” (a little German lingo, not Swahili). We spent the day at Gituamba, but it was vastly different in character than when we were there on Tuesday. The school was not in session today, so there were only about 20 kids running around. We missed them, but it was a good opportunity to get a lot of the projects done that we had started there earlier in the week. There were crews painting, anything that didn’t move, including walls and doors and window frames and lots of other things. The remainder of the student chair components got varnished so that they can be completed once we send back some rivets from the States. Several of the team were working up in the rafters with Eddie the welder installing sound insulating panels set in steel. The amount of noise reduction from room to room is already evident, even though a small portion of the school is completed. The remainder of the student desks had hasps installed so that they can be locked to keep personal belonging safe. We had a large contingent of the SWOK students working with us today, so it was a nice opportunity to have one on one time with them. 

At the end of the workday, one van of our team took the side trip up to see the equator and be able to stand on the division line. The scenery includes pretty hillsides and tea plantations. 

Following our dinner at Tumaini, we had our final team meeting and shared about our highlights for the week. We have certainly seen the Lord’s hand all throughout our week and know that His anointing is on Bill and Chat and the mission of SWOK. We feel blessed to have been invited into a ministry that is changing lives and making a difference for the Kingdom for eternity. We look forward to coming back next year!
